Etihad Rail, the organisation responsible for managing the development, construction, and operation of the United Arab Emirates’ national freight and passenger railway network, faced a crucial challenge in their battery storage facility. They required a secure solution to mitigate the risks associated with potential battery acid leaks.
Conventional materials such as steel were unsuitable due to their corrosive nature and the hazards they presented. Moreover, the clients were hesitant to engage other composite suppliers in the market due to the lack of supporting evidence for their testing claims.
Fortunately, Dura Composites was able to offer a non-corrosive solution that fulfilled all their load-bearing requirements. We provided GRP 38mm Standard Mesh Grating, which features larger hole sizes, enabling smooth drainage in the event of a leak.
To meet the facility’s slope requirements without compromising structural integrity, we intelligently implemented a custom-cut GRP Profile. Both solutions were installed by our specialist partner Invicta Durasteel who have a wealth of experience in the market.
Utilising our lightweight GRP products, not only was the installation process simplified, but any future maintenance will also be significantly easier, as the components can be lifted and re-fixed effortlessly.
As Etihad Rail is such a prominent force in job creation and transformation of the logistics sector, it was a privilege for us to collaborate with them on such an interesting project.
Commenting on the project, Paul Fletcher, International Manager at Dura Composites said;
It’s been a privilege to work closely with our partners Invicta to contribute to a project for such a renowned company as Etihad Rail that is leading the way in advancing the UAE. By supplying and installing our lightweight, high-strength, non-corrosive and durable GRP Grating and Profile, we were able to offer a secure solution capable of withstanding any unforeseen events.
